Somerwel terriers is owned and loved by Ifan and Lydia Thomas. Based in Wellington, Somerset, breeding and showing Welsh Terriers. Our love of the Welsh terrier started in 2013 with the purchase of our first welsh terrier - Ruth (Saredon Desert Bloom at Somerwel). Before picking the welsh we had a short list of 5 dog breeds that we were interested in.
Originally I (Lydia) had set out to continue my passion for Agility, which I had be doing with a standard poodle before moving away from the family home. It was the September of 2013 that I saw two welsh competing at the Gilligham Agility show and this helped us make a final decision on which breed was for us!
After getting married and moving to Wellington in 2013 we found an available welsh and picked up Ruth from the famous Saredon Kennel in the Midlands. In 2020 we moved to Catcott in North Somerset where our dogs get to enjoy over three acres of play space!
I had intended to train Ruth at Agility but after attending a couple of Ringcraft sessions it was apparent that we had bought a natural. And so the addiction to Pedigree dog showing began!
SOMERWEL
PUPPIES
When looking for a new dog to join the Somerwel Show Team we occasionally breed our own. Our puppies are bred from fully PLL tested parents, are Kennel Club (UK) registered and reared in the family home.
As the Welsh Terrier breed is on the KC "At Watch List" we encourage potential owners to join waiting lists with reputable breeders. We are proud to be doing the best we can to preserve such a wonderful breed.
We are not planning to breed in the immediate future and our wait list is currently closed, however we can offer you the following bits of advice: Sign up the "Find a Puppy" service with the KC for notifications when litters are registered, or check out the Breeder listing on the Welsh Terrier Club of GB website to make contact with other breeders that may be able to put you on a list or offer advice on expected litters.
